Govt Announce New Review Of Hospital Deaths
The government has announced an official inquiry into the suspicious deaths of patients at Gosport War Memorial Hospital over a period of 12 years.
A review was conducted into dozens of deaths at the hospital between 1988 and 2000, but was only published in 2013, some 10 years after it was completed.
Care and Support minister Norman Lamb announced that inquiry, which will be led by the the former Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev James Jones.
Mr Jones previously chaired the Hillsborough Independent Panel.
The new inquiry is expected to take around two years, and will include a review of the press report and evidence thought to held by a number of organisation.

Union anger at health sector pay rises
Unions have reacted angrily to the government's announcement that pay for nurses and other healthcare professions has been pegged below inflation. Nurses and other health care professionals will get 2.5%, 1.5% in April and 1% in November. General dental practitioners will get 2% but there is nothing on offer for general medical practitioners.

Reid gives 'green light' for £4bn PFI hospital deal
The 'green light' has been given for 15 new NHS hospital developments in a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal worth more than £4 billion, it has been announced today. Today's announcement will bring investment in new NHS hospitals to more than £16 billion since 1997, the health department said.

First Chairman Of Highways Agency Board Appointed
Alan Cook has been appointed as the first ever non-executive Chairman of the Highways Agency (HA) board. The new post has been established to ensure greater efficiency at the Agency and to provide independent advice to Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond. Mr Cook has held senior positions in both the private and public sectors.

'Review Reinforces Commitment', Health Secretary
In line with the government's commitment to protect health spending, overall NHS spending is set to increase by 0.4% in real terms over the course of the Spending Review period. This will include a 1.3% increase in the resource budget, and a 17% decrease in capital spending.
