Torrential Rain Causes Traffic Disruption In Southern England
Parts of southern England have been hit with storms and torrential rain causing major traffic problems and flooding across the city.
The thunder and lightning storms hit the Hove, Brighton and Worthing areas of Sussex on Monday morning.
An electricity substation was also hit with lightning at around 6.20am.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: "There was a lightning strike at 6.20 at an electricity substation, which meant we lost the power supply to the third rail – which provides traction power to the trains. There have been delays and cancellations in the Brighton to Shoreham line, but not the main line to London."
Brighton and Hove police said: "Localised flooding in Hove and Portslade, some roads not passable. Please do not enter flood water on foot or in cars."
Brighton and Hove council said essential services are being maintained and City clean are working with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to clear roadside gullies.

Anti-war protestors to stage demonstrations at the BBC
Anti-war protestors are planning a series of demonstrations at BBC offices across the UK today. The Stop The War Coalition said that the protests were in response to the BBC's failure to cover a previous demonstration last month, as well as in protest at the "general pro-government bias" in some of its reporting on the war.
