£2m Secured For Eastbourne

Downing Street has confirmed that £2m is to be given to Eastbourne, following a fire that destroyed a large part of its historic pier.

The Prime Minister and Chancellor George Osborne visited Eastbourne to met with emergency services and talk to business owners.

Mr Cameron said: "The loss of one of Eastbourne's most prominent and well-loved landmarks will have hit the town hard".

He added he was determined to "help local businesses recover".

Beachy Head Plunge Death Couple Named
A couple who placed the body of their dead son in a rucksack before jumping off Beachy Head cliffs to their death have been named. The bodies of Neil Puttick, 34, his 44-year-old Japanese wife Kazumi, and their son Samuel, aged 5, were recovered from the notorious suicide spot near Eastbourne, East Sussex, yesterday morning.

Nine Held Over Alleged £40m Mortgage Fraud
Nine people are being questioned by police in relation to an alleged £40 million mortgage fraud, according to police. Officers from City of London Police fraud squad are searching six homes and three business premises in southern England. Eight men and one woman were held following the raids on the residential addresses in Sussex and north London.
