Ten Coastal Towns To Benefit From Lottery Fund

A total of £8.5 million is to be shared between ten coastal towns, which will be used to repair storm-damaged areas and create new jobs.

Jubilee Pool in Penzance, Old Portsmouth's historic arches, and the South West Coastal Path are among the areas set to receive the government money, which is being made available from the Big Lottery's Coastal Community Fund.

The money is to be shared as such:

• Jubilee Pool, Penzance, Cornwall - £1.95m

• Historic arches, Old Portsmouth, Hampshire - £1.755m

• South West Coastal Path, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset - £999,000

• Historic Fruit Market, Kingston upon Hull - £800,000

• Waldringfield Flood Defence, Suffolk - £633,000

• Maltings Building, Wells-next-the-Sea, near Cromer, Norfolk - £610,000

• Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Spurn Point - £498,000

• RSPB Nature Reserve, Bempton Cliffs, Humberside - £452,000

• Youth Hostels in Brighton, East Sussex, and Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire - £401,000

• Park View 4 U, near Lytham St Annes, Lancashire - £395,000

Flood Preparation 'Saved Lives'
Lives and property have been saved by flood defences and warnings across Britain in the face of tides that broke a 60-year record, according to police and the Environment Agency. Two people died on Thursday when fierce storms hit the east coast of Britain. Environment Secretary Owen Paterson said the crisis was not yet over.

CPI Drops By 0.1%
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) dropped by 0.1% in the year to April 2015, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This is compared to no change in the year to March 2015. This is the first time the CPI has fallen over the year since official records began in 1996 and the first time since 1960 based on comparable historic estimates.

Tower Of London Poppies To Be Lit For Longer
Historic Royal Palaces has announced the display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London will be lit for an extra hour at night and earlier in the morning to allow more people to see the exhibition. Currently the poppies are lit from 5am until dawn and from dusk until 11pm. They will now be lit from 4:30am and then kept lit until midnight.

82-Year-Old Jailed For Historic Sex Offences
An 82-year-old man has been jailed for six years for the sexual abuse of a girl in his care between 2001 and 2010. Aubrey Shaw, of Collin Avenue, Gorton, was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life. The girl, who was 4-years-old when the abuse began, came forward in 2014.

Lubbock Police 'Lost Evidence', Report Finds
Police investigating the death of a man who was found dead in Michael barrymore's swimming pool, lost crucial pieces of evicence, an official report has found. Stuart Lubbock, 31, of Harlow, Essex, died in March 2001 after attending a party at Mr Barrymore's former home in Roydon, Essex.
