Labour Vows To Tackle 'Bad' Energy Firms
Labour has vowed that if it wins the next general election, it would make sure that "bad" energy companies risk losing their licence.
The party pledged that it would create a new industry regulator with the power to remove a companies licence for "repeated instances of the most serious and deliberate breaches of their licence conditions".
However, current regulator, Ofgem, has said that they already have this power, which can be used under "certain circumstances".
Launching the pledge, shadow energy secretary Caroline Flint, said: "Where firms fail to meet standards there must be tough and decisive action."

EDF To Takeover British Energy
The Government welcomed EDF's proposed £12.5 billion takeover offer for British Energy Group and the British Energy Board's recommendation of the offer to its shareholders. Labour leader Ed Miliband has said that a Labour government would implement a 20-month gas and electric prize freeze should his party win the 2015 election. News of the freeze was welcomed by consumer groups but it is understood that the "big six" energy firms have warned of "serious consequences".
