Man Rescued From Burning Yacht

RNLI rescuers have saved a lone yachtsman from a burning boat off the North East coast.

The RNLI reported that the 36ft vessel "burst into flames" at about 05:45 off Seaham, Co Durham, with boat crews in the area spotting thick plumes of smoke. They alerted the emergency services.

The yachtsman managed to escape the vessel and got into a life raft before being airlifted to safety by an RAF rescue helicopter.

It is understood that he was uninjured in the incident.
