Boris Johnson Announces He Will Stand In West London

London's Lord Mayor has confirmed that he will seek to become MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in next year's general election.

It follows Boris Johnson confirming earlier this month that he hoped to return to Parliament by standing for election next year. The west London district has been described as a safe Tory seat.

New speculation is now suggesting that Mr Johnson is positioning himself to become leader of the Conservative Party.

It is understood that there could be up to 100 contenders for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat, with the party expected to announced it's candidate on 12 September.
