Ardbeg 'Space Whisky' To Return To Earth

Ardbeg whisky which was sent into space in October 2011 is set to return to earth.

As part of a scientific experiment a vial of unmatured malt and particles of charred oak from the Islay distillery was sent on board a cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station.

It is understood that scientists hope to understand how they interact at close-to-zero gravity.

The whisky, which has orbited the earth for 1,045 days, is expected to return on 12 September, landing in Kazakhstan.

Badger Trust Lose Cull Halt High Court Bid

The High Court has ruled against the Badger Trust, who had been seeking to have an upcoming badger cull stopped.

The trust had argued that the cull should not go ahead without independent observers.

However, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, successfully maintained that independent monitoring was only intended to be used in the first year of the cull.

The Badger Trust is said to be "considering its options".

85-Year-Old Arrested On Suspicious Of Grievous Bodily Harm

Police in Lancashire have arrested an 85-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

Police say that the man is suspected of driving his car at an 81-year-old man in Shawforth, near Rochdale on Wednesday.

The victim needed treatment for leg injuries and was in a critical condition, but is now said to be stable.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
