Man Dies In House Fire

A 91-year-old man has died following a house fire in Carryduff, County Down.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said it received a call at 00.58 on the morning of 2 September to attend a fire involving a domestic garage and an oil tank at Thorndale Park, Carryduff, Co Down.

The fire spread to another oil tank and ruptured, causing a nearby detached bungalow on the Hillsborough Road to catch fire. Firefighters attended the scene and rescued a 91-year-old man from the property.

Firefighters and paramedics carried out CPR but the man died at the scene.

Police Investigate 'Bomb Blast' Sites, Killyleagh

Police have found what they believe to be the site of two small bomb blasts following reports of two loud bangs in Killyleagh over the weekend.

The army bomb squad was sent to the scene on the Coily Hill Road in the County Down village on Monday, following the discovery.

Officers have now left the scene.

Men Fined Over Fisheries Offences

Two men have been fined for fisheries offences at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court.

Patrick Hardy of Glencolin Drive in Belfast was found guilty of unlicenced angling and trespass on a several fishery at Lough Money in County Down.

He was fined a total of £175, with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Aaron O’Neill of Cumber Park, Drumaness, was found guilty of unlicenced angling at Pollrammer Lake in County Down.

He was fined £75 with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted at Newry Magistrates' court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

23-year-old Edward Keatings of Glenalina Road, Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance totalling £2,702 while failing to declare employment. He was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Man Arrested In Connection With Dromara Assault
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.

Man Dies In Portadown Road Crash
An 18-year-old man has died following a collision in Portadown. The crash happened on the Dungannon Road between midnight and 12.30am on Wednesday, 08 November. The road has been re-opened. Elsewhere, a man, aged in his 30's, has died in a road collision in Co Antrim.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
