M&S Launch Free Online Business Course

Marks and Spencer has teamed up with Leeds University to offer a free online business course.

The Mooc, or 'massive open online course', is a free course in business innovation, using case studies, video from the company's archive and support from university academics.

Alison Houston, head of the M&S archive, says the course teaches how "creative concepts are balanced with commercial thinking".

'Hardcore Mansions' Name Change Refused

A Bedfordshire homeowner's application to register his house as 'Hardcore Mansions' has been rejected as 'potentially offensive'.

Bedford Borough Council rejected Daniel Lewis's application to rename his home in Milton Road, Clapham, saying that the proposed name was "inappropriate".

Mr Lewis said he wanted to rename his home as a reminder of nights out when he was younger.

GSA Welcomes Book Donations To Replace Lost Library

Glasgow School of Art (GSA) has managed to replace a quarter of its books in high demand by students and staff, that were lost in a fire in June.

A number of books were identified for priority replacement due to their popularity with students and staff.

GSA said it was thanks to the "huge generosity of private individuals and institutions", that they have been able to replace 22% of the texts.

"We have been very touched by the generosity shown to us which is testament to the affection in which the Mackintosh Library was held by so many," Duncan Chappell, academic liaison librarian at GSA said.

PM Pledges Reform Of Elderly Care
As the percentage of the population in the older age categories expand, the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown has pledged "fundamental reform to social care of the elderly and disabled" in England as the Government warned that the system is facing a £6 billion funding gap within 20 years.

Sheppey Crossing Crash Drivers To Be Given Training
Thirty two drivers are to be offered driver alertness sessions in lieu of prosecution after a crash that injured more than 200 people. Some 130 cars were involved in a pile-up on the Sheppey crossing in September, with cars crashing into each other for over ten minutes due to poor visibility in think fog.

Boy Dies In London Stabbing
A 16-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in east London. Two teenagers were found with knife wounds at about 21:50 on Monday evening in Spey Street, Poplar. One of the teenagers, who has been named as Ajmol Alom, later died. Relatives named the victim, however this is yet to be confirmed by Scotland Yard.
