Police Search For Human Remains

South Wales Police have confirmed they are carrying out a search for possible human remains.

It is understood that police are searching ground near Western Leisure Centre in Ely, Cardiff.

Police say they believe remains may have been buried at the site around three years ago.

Forensic and specialist search teams are at the scene.

Alice Gross Inquest Opened And Adjourned

An inquest is underway into the death of 14-year-old Alice Gross.

The inquest was opened at West London Coroner's Court and immediately adjourned, to allow the criminal investigation to continue.

The teenager from Hanwell went missing on 28 August. Her body was discovered, wrapped and weighted down in the River Brent, on 30 September.

Tonnes Of Waste Disguised As Hay Bales

An investigation has been launched after hundreds of tonnes of rubbish was discovered, disguised as hay bales, on a disused farm.

The waste was uncovered at a farm in Turnhouse, Edinburgh, and it is estimated that it would have cost around £60,000 to dispose of it legally.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) is investigating what it described as a "sophisticated operation".

Life For Gardening Murderer
A gardener has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of 54-year-old Lynda Casey from Coulsdon in Surrey. Ms Casey's body was found by police search teams in an area of Banstead Woods in Surrey known as Great Solom’s Wood on 13 August 2009. A post mortem examination showed she had suffered multiple head injuries.

Human Remains Found During Search For Missing Woman
Police Scotland have confirmed that human remains have been found during the search for missing 19-year-old Hazel North. A search had been ongoing for Ms North, who was from Dunfermline and has been missing since 04 March. Police have not yet been confirmed if the remains found in Dean Park are those of Ms North.

Attorney General Applies To Have Original Hillsborough Verdict Quashed
An application has been put forward by the Attorney General to have the original Hillsborough inquest verdict quashed. Dominic Grieve QC announced the move in Parliament in his response to the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report published on 12 September.

PM To Host Internet Safety Summit
The Prime Minister will host a key summit at Downing Street where he will welcome the progress made by internet service providers, leading search engines and police agencies to better protect children from harmful material online and block child abuse and other illegal content but will warn that there is still more to do.

Missing Boy's Funeral Held Today
A funeral will be held later for a British boy who drowned while cycling on an island in the south of France. 12-year-old Pierre Barnes from Grantham in Lincolnshire vanished on 27 October while cycling on Porquerolles. The boy went missing just hours after arriving for a half-term family holiday.
