DEL Launches 'Connected' Phase 3
The third phase of the Department for Employment and Learning’s 'Connected' programme has been launched today.
Funded by the Department, Connected is delivered by Queen’s University, the University of Ulster and the six further education (FE) colleges.
The scheme aims to assist businesses improve performance by providing access to support services.
Employment Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: "My decision to approve a third round of Connected to run for the next four years, represents a total investment of over £4.5m and is testament to the excellent work carried out in the past four years. Since its launch as a pilot programme in 2007, Connected has enabled companies to gain access to world-class expertise, technology and research from Northern Ireland’s universities and colleges, assisting them to boost their competitiveness, develop new products and increase market opportunities.
"Connected 3 will continue to develop a broad and growing portfolio of industrial support networks spanning Queen’s, the University of Ulster and all six further education colleges, further developing the programme’s existing links with both the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute and with the College of Agriculture, Food & Rural Enterprise, whilst also now seeking to build an entirely new relationship with the Open University in Northern Ireland."

Lidl Invests Further £3m In Pay Increases
Lidl Northern Ireland has announced a pay increase for its workers across the region, investing £3 millon in staff. Lidl NI has to date invested £6 million in pay rises for employees in the region with employees benefitting from a 13.5 percent increase since February 2023.

School Workers To Consider Further Strike Action
School workers in Northern Ireland are to consider further industrial action, in an ongoing dispute over pay. The GMB Union, which represents more than 3,000 classroom assistants, kitchen staff, bus drivers, cleaners, admin workers and others, met with Education Minister Paul Givan at Stormont on Tuesday, 20 February.

Economy Minister Meets With Further Education Unions
Economy Minister, Conor Murphy, has held a meeting with representatives of the UCU and NASUWT unions representing workers in the further education sector to discuss the requirements of a new pay award. Following the meeting, Minister Murphy said: "I am very keen to ensure further education staff get a pay uplift as soon as possible.

Transport Unions Re-Enter Talks With Translink
Northern Ireland's transport unions have agreed to re-enter discussions with Translink management, after the rejection of a pay offer. GMB, SIPTU and Unite announced last week that a "decisive majority" of their members had voted to reject a 5% pay offer and one-off payment of £1,500.
