Executive Appeals For Halloween Safety
The Department of Health and the Department of Justice have made a public appeal to the public to stay safe this Halloween.
Public Safety Minister Jim Wells and Justice Minister David Ford launched the 2014 Firework Safety Campaign at Hammer Youth Centre in north Belfast last night.
Young people from both Hammer Youth Club and Ardoyne Youth club joined the Ministers as they watched a Fireworks display.
Jim Wells said: "In 2013 we had the lowest number of injuries ever recorded with only six injuries reported throughout the whole province. This is a remarkable effort and we want to see this effort maintained, and improved. It would be absolutely fantastic if no injuries were recorded this year.
"Every one of us has a duty of care to ensure fireworks are handled responsibly to prevent fireworks related injuries to all, particularly children and young people. We all want to relax and enjoy this time with our friends and family. Most of all we want to protect and sustain the life of our loved ones.
"Let us all aim to further reduce fireworks injuries this year and demonstrate how responsible we can be around fireworks and follow the Fireworks Code. At this time of year we must increase our diligence and awareness to be safe, not sorry."
Justice Minister David Ford said: "The law on fireworks is very clear. Purchasers must obtain a fireworks licence from the Department of Justice and they must be purchased from a registered supplier. I would appeal to those using fireworks to abide by the Fireworks Safety Code as I do not want to see people breaking the law by buying fireworks without a licence or using fireworks that may be unsafe."

Ulster GAA has announced it support for the 'Share the Road to Zero' campaign, pledging its commitment to improving road safety. The Northern Ireland Football League, PSNI, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and councils are among other organisations that have signed up to the campaign.

Investigation Launched After Lit Firework Thrown Onto Glider
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after fireworks were thrown into a shop and a bus in separate incident in west Belfast on Monday, 18 September. In the first incident around 9.15pm, a lit firework was thrown into a shop on the Stewartstown Road, starting a fire in the premises.
