Health Minister To Investigate Possible Ban Of Offensive Halloween Costumes
Health Minister Norman Lamb has said that he will seek a ban on Halloween costumes that are criticised for stigmatising people with mental health issues.
It is understood that the costumes are being sold online and involve outfits labelled as 'Skitzo' and 'Psycho Ward'.
Mr Lamb described the outfits as "disgusting and appalling", according to a report by the BBC, adding that he planned to look at whether it is possible to "achieve a ban".

MPs set to debate smoking plans
MPs will debate government plans to introduce a partial smoking ban in England and Wales, when the legislation returns to the House of Commons for its second reading today. The Health Bill includes proposals to introduce a smoking ban in public places, but with exemptions for pubs and bars, which do not serve food and private members’ clubs.

A "mental patient" fancy dress costume has been pulled from supermarket shelves following widespread criticism. Asda and Tesco have removed the Halloween costumes from shelves after a number of complaints, including one "stunned" mental health charity.

Free vote for MPs on smoking ban
MPs will be allowed a free vote on proposals to introduce a smoking ban in England, including an option to introduce a total ban. MPs will have three options to choose from when the vote takes place at the report stage of the Health Bill in the Commons later this month.

BP Tanker Drivers To Strike Over Pension And Pay Dispute
Grangemouth oil refinery tanker drivers will walk out for three days next Friday in a dispute over pensions and pay. The Unite members at the Forth estuary facility, employed by BP, will also ban overtime from Monday in action the union said would hit aviation supplies and deliveries to BP forecourts across Scotland and the north east of England.

Scottish executive backs smoking ban
The Scottish executive has today confirmed that it will seek a total ban on smoking in enclosed public places. In order to enforce the ban, pubs and restaurants that fail to enforce the law will face fines up to a maximum of £2,500.
