ChildLine Reports Doubling Of Calls About Suicide

Childline has reported a two-fold increase in the number of children considering suicide, it said.

The charity has revealed it received over 34,500 calls in a year from under-18s talking about killing themselves.

The figure for 2013/14 amounts to over double the calls received just three years ago.

The NSPCC, which runs the charity, said almost 6,000 of the children who called told counsellors they had tried to kill themselves in the past.

Children aged between 12 and 15 are said to be the largest group affected, with more than a third of those undergoing counselling sessions about suicide.

More young people feeling suicidal have also stated they are being bullied via online social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
