Royal Mail Warns Of Uncertain Future

Royal Mail has recorded a fall in profits in the six months to September, standing at £218m, which is down from £233m for the same period in 2013.

Announcing the figures, the company also warned that increased competition could see it steadily lose more money – it has estimated that £200m could be wiped off sales by the rise of delivery firm Whistl, previously known as TNT.

It also said that its Universal Service – a government-mandated service which guarantees a single price postal service to all UK addresses – is under threat.

The company's financial statement shows the their UK parcel delivery revenue fell by 1%. However, its international parcel delivery service, GLS, rose by 7%.
