Hospital To Use Legal Action To 'Evict' Medically Fit

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is considering using legal action against families who refuse to take elderly relatives home when they are medically fit to do so.

The hospital claims that as of Wednesday of this week, 70 patients are medically fit to leave but are still on their wards.

The hospital's clinical manager for discharge services said it will give a weeks notice on patients that are fit to leave and have a safe place to go – a family home or care facility for example.

And if families refuse to take their relatives, the hospital said it will consider legal proceedings to formally evict a patient "if necessary".
