Sturgeon Sworn In As Scottish First Minister

Nicola Sturgeon, the new leader of the Scottish National Party, has been officially sworn in as the country's First Minister.

MSPs voted Ms Sturgeon in on Wednesday after which she received the Royal Warrant – formal approval of her appointment.

Later today she will lead First Minister's Questions for the first time.

A Deputy First Minister (DFM) is expected to be announced on Friday.

It is understood that while Stewart Hosie replaced Ms Sturgeon as Deputy Leader of the SNP, he does not serve in the Scottish Parliament and therefore cannot be named DFM.

The new DFM is expected to be chosen from the party's MSPs.
