19% Show 'Possible Psychiatric Disorder' - Report
19% of of people in Northern Ireland show signs of possible psychiatric disorder, according to a new report released by the Department of Health.
Respondents to the Health Survey Northern Ireland report indicated that 45% of females and 29% of males take medication for stress, anxiety or depression.
There was also an increase in the proportion of obese and overweight adults, from 56% in 1997 to 61% in 2013/14. 44% of respondents classed as obese were meeting the recommended weekly levels of physical activity.
Just 33% said they ate the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, indicating a rise from 2005/06, when 27% of respondents met the requirement.
The proportion of smokers has fallen in the last decade from 26% in 2004/05 to 22% in 2013/14.
The report also showed a reduction in adults drinking above "sensible" weekly limits from 19% in 2011/12 to 16% in 2013/14. The proportion of males drinking above the "sensible" weekly limit fell from 28% in 2011/12 to 23% in 2013/14.
53% of respondents met the recommended level of physical activity, with 60% of males meeting the recommendations, compared with 47% of females.
