Scotland's Deputy First Minister Named

A former leader of the Scottish National Party, John Swinney, has been named as Deputy First Minister, in the first move of a cabinet reshuffle being undertaken by Nicola Sturgeon.

Ms Sturgeon, who was announced the new First Minister earlier this week, is expected to announce a full reshuffle later today, with one of her closest ally's, Shona Robison, tipped for promotion.

According to reports, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill and Education Secretary Mike Russell are expected to leave government.

Queen Opens £294m Borders Railway
The Queen has opened a new railway between Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. Her Majesty, who has been named Britain's longest serving monarch today, 09 September, was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. The line between Tweedbank and Edinburgh was opened to the public on 06 September.
