Ladybird Commit To Drop Gender Branding

Ladybird books has announced that it is to stop gender branding its books.

The publisher, which has previously published Favourite Fairy Tales for Girls and Favourite Stories for Boys, said that it did not want to be seen "to be limiting children in any way".

It is understood that out of hundreds of titles published by Ladybird, just six of its titles are gender-specific.

Ladybird is the seventh publisher to commit to the 'Let Books Be Books' campaign, which is urging "boys" and "girls" labels to be removed to enable children to choose freely what kind of story and activity books interest them.

Rail Firm Launches Lost Teddy Campaign

First Great Western has launched a campaign to try and reunite people with lost teddy bears.

The company is using posters and a dedicated website featuring mugshots of the toys left behind on trains in the south of England.

The train company's website enables people to submit a search for a teddy, even if they are unable to remember exactly where it was lost.

Mike Holmes, station manager at Bristol Temple Meads, said: "People need to give their name, the description of the teddy bear and its distinguishing features and we'll do a recce and see if we can find it."

Council Apologises For Email Dismissing Letter As 'Tosh'

A Norwich City Councillor has apologised for dismissing a letter sent to him as "tosh".

Mike Sands had received a letter from a group of skateboarders, raising their objections to a potential ban of skateboarding in Norwich city centre.

Intending to forward to letter to council leader Brenda Arthur, Mr Sands accidentally replied to the group, using the opening line, "Read the letter... What tosh!"

Mr Sands apologised after the skateboarders published the letter to their Facebook page.
