BCC Make Conditional Offer To Ulster Orchestra

An offer of £100,000 has been made to help the Ulster Orchestra (UO), if it can find funders to make up the remaining money it needs to cover a shortfall.

Following a rejection by the Belfast City Council to cover the orchestras full £500,000 shortfall, the council has made a conditional offer of £100,000, dependent on the UO finding the remaining money from other sources.

It is understood the council is also considering allowing the orchestra to remain at the Ulster Hall, rent free, for the next five years.

The offer made by the council must still be approved at the next full council meeting, and will hinge on the future viability and sustainability of the orchestra.
