Net Migration Rises To 260,000
Net migration to the UK has risen to 260,000 in the year to June, new figures have revealed.
This is an increase of 182,000 on the previous year.
The figures, released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), is calculated by taking the number of people leaving the country away from the number coming in to the country.
According to the statistics, 583,000 people immigrated to the UK in the year ending June 2014, a surge from 502,000 for the previous 12 months. While "statistically significant increases" were also recorded in immigration from the EU, up by 45,000, and from outside the EU, up by 30,000.
A "statistically significant increase" in Romanian and Bulgarian citizens arriving in the UK over the period also increased, from 18,000 to 32,000.
Prime Minister David Cameron has previously said he aimed to bring net migration to below 100,000 before the 2015 election. However, net migration is now said to be 16,000 higher than when the coalition government was established in 2010.

The ONS report showed a net flow increase of 154,000 in the year to September. Net flow is measured by subtracting the number of people leaving the UK from the number of people arriving.

Net Migration Falls By A Third
UK net migration fell by a third in year to June 2012 new immigration figures have shown. 163,000 more people came to live in the UK for 12 months or more than left, compared with 247,000 the year before, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics. The ONS say the drop is driven by immigration.

UK population tops 60 million
The population of the UK has increased to more than 60 million for the first time, the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics has shown. The figures showed an increase of 0.6% or 375,000 to 60.2 million by June last year.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown that net migration fell by 10,000 in the year to September 2012, leaving the total at 153,000. It is thought that the drop can be attributed to a decrease in the number of overseas students coming to Britain and a decline in the numbers using the ‘family reunion’ route.

Net migration levels to the UK have dropped, according to the Office for National Statistics. The balance between the number of people who come to live in the UK for the long-term and the number who are leaving fell from 242,000 to 183,000 in the year to March.
