Energy Firm Hit With New Record Fine
Energy regulator Ofgem has fined two energy generation companies a total of £39 million for their failure to meet energy saving targets for low-income households.
North Yorkshire-based Drax has been fined £28m – the largest fine ever handed down by the regulator – and InterGen were fined £11m.
Ofgem said both companies failed to meet the requirements laid out by the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), part of the government's Home Energy Saving Programme. Both schemes ran until the end of 2012.
It is understood Ofgem are still to make decisions on a number of other energy firms including British Gas, SSE, Scottish Power, and GDF/Suez.

Ofgem has announced it will fine energy company SSE as much as £10.5m for misselling. The energy watchdog said it would fine SSE for "numerous breaches of its obligations relating to telephone, in-store and doorstep sales activities".

EDF To Takeover British Energy
The Government welcomed EDF's proposed £12.5 billion takeover offer for British Energy Group and the British Energy Board's recommendation of the offer to its shareholders. The Government has committed to accept the cash offer of 774p per share for its 36% stake held by the Nuclear Liabilities Fund (NLF), subject to certain conditions.

Energy regulator Ofgem has launched Energy Best Deal, a campaign to empower low income customers with the information to help them make the most of the energy market. The campaign has been devised by Ofgem and Citizens Advice and has been funded by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
