Update On £5.6m Ballymena Investment

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has set out TransportNI's progress on a £5.6m investment in Ballymena, County Antrim, this year.

"Last month I announced the appointment of consortium BAM/McCann as contractor for the A26 dualling scheme between Glarryford and the A44 Drones Road junction," he said. "This eight kilometre scheme represents an investment of £55million, including land acquisition. Work is expected to start by the end of this year, running for a period of 28 months, with completion expected in early to mid 2017.

"I am pleased to note that construction of a new £450,000 roundabout at Cromkill Road/Ballee Road West junction is progressing on site and has begun to address a history of traffic collisions that have continued to occur despite previous remedial measures.

"The final stage of the Ballymena to Cullybackey footway scheme, which included work to relocate the Automatic Half Barrier to provide safe passage for pedestrians crossing the railway line, was completed at the end of September and work to upgrade the western side of the Rathkeel Road/Lisnamurrican Road crossroads to improve driver sightlines and stopping sight distance through the junction is at an advanced stage and it is expected to be completed in early December this year."
