NCA Launch Rotherham Abuse Investigation

An investigation has been launched into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, where more than 1,400 children were abused between 1997 and 2013.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) have launched the investigation following the publication of the Jay Report, which has already led to a number of resignations, including Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner.

Commissioned by Rotherham Council, the Jay Report uncovered that children had suffered rape by multiple people, and were been beaten and intimidated and trafficked to other cities in England. It also claimed that South Yorkshire Police had failed to prioritise allegations.

South Yorkshire Police Chief Constable, David Crompton, asked the NCA to investigate.
