Barbour Workers Accept 'Significantly Improved' Offer
Striking Barbour workers at the famous jacket maker in Gateshead will be going back to work after accepting a significantly improved offer following talks at Acas, their union Unite announced today.
A majority of the workers, who had been on strike following forced changes to their contracts, accepted a deal which sees substantial increases in pay and day shift working for those with family and caring responsibilities.
J Barbour and Son Ltd had given warehouse workers a 'sign or be sacked' ultimatum over changes that included the removal of the unsocial hours payment and the introduction of a requirement to work until 11 o'clock at night.
But after four days of strike action in December and one week into a four-week stoppage, management agreed to talks at Acas.

The survey of over 20,000 people found 84% believe a fulfilling career is more important than money amid ongoing turmoil with the government, unions and employers locked in the latest round of national pay talks.

Tractor Workers In Basildon Accept Pay Offer
The pay dispute at Case New Holland Tractor Ltd in Basildon, Essex has been settled, after the workforce accepted an improved pay offer. The 460-strong hourly paid production workforce – members of Unite the union – were due to start a 36-hour strike but it has now been suspended. The offer that has now been accepted is 2% for 2015 and 2% for 2016.
