'Yellow' Warning For Icy Roads

The UK Met Office has issued a 'yellow' warning for icy roads across Northern Ireland this weekend.

Outbreaks of rain on Friday are to clear to scattered showers by evening, with rapidly-dropping temperatures leading to the development of icy stretches to on untreated surfaces, especially where sheltered from westerly winds.

The Met Office said showers would become increasingly wintry overnight, including the potential for hail over Scotland, adding to the ice risk. But it said fresh lying snow would be confined to hills.

The Chief Forecaster said: "Fronts will clear southeastwards across the area introducing a cold air mass across the area. Following showers will be wintry over high ground, with settling snow levels ranging from about 200 m NW Scotland to around 300 in NW England and Northern Ireland."

The Met Office has warned the public to be aware of the risk of icy stretches on roads and pavements.
