Cyclist Shot In Face With BB Gun During Robbery

Gwent Police have said a cyclist has was shot in the face with a BB gun before having his bike stolen.

Two males have been arrested in connection, where the 40-year-old cyclist was attacked in an alleyway at Sandpiper Way in Duffryn.

An 18-year-old remains in custody, while a 17-year-old has been released on bail.

£75m Women's Prison Plan Scrapped

Plans for a new £75m women's prison in Scotland have been scrapped.

The new prison, which was due to replace Scotland's women-only prison Corton Vale, had been heavily criticised.

Announcing the U-turn, Scotland's Justice Secretary Michael Matheson said that they must take a "more radical and ambitious approach to female offending".

CCTV Footage Of Missing Mum-Of-Four Released

Police have released CCTV footage of 25-year-old Samantha Henderson, who has been missing since 21 January.

Ms Henderson, a mother-of-four, from Corfe Castle in Dorset, was last seen at about 15:00 at Corfe Primary School.

The CCTV footage shows her in the Sweet Shop in the village at about 11:40 last Wednesday.

A 27-year-old man is currently being questioned on suspicion of her murder.

Ms Henderson is described as white, 1.6m (5ft 3ins) tall and of a very slim build.

Det Insp Mark Samuel, of Dorset Police, said: "We have not found Samantha yet and are gravely concerned about her, fearing that she may have come to some harm."

Prison officers suspended over corruption claims
Fourteen prison officers have been suspended from HMP Pentonville following allegations of corruption. A spokesperson for the Prison Service confirmed that the prison officers had been suspended over allegations which concerned trafficking and "inappropriate relations" with prisoners.

Prisons face overcrowding crisis
Prisons in England and Wales are under "enormous pressure" and are facing a "looming overcrowding crisis", according to a charity report. The Prison Reform Trust reported that prison numbers have crept up again since Christmas rising to over 77,000 again.

Call For Degree Educated Prison Officers
A charity for Penal Reform has today released a report recommending that prison officers are educated to degree level in order to better manage prisons and reduce reoffending rates. At present, prison officers undergo eight weeks training before taking responsibility for safety and security within a prison.

Chris Tarrant Questioned Over 'Assault'
TV presenter Chris Tarrant has been arrested following an alleged assault during a domestic incident at his home, it has been emerged. Tarrant, who hosts Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? And Colour of Money, was questioned by officers at Staines police station in Middlesex after a woman claimed she was assaulted.
