Police Arrest Two Men Over 1991 Abduction And Murder

Police investigating the abduction and murder of Nicola Payne in 1991 have arrested two men.

Ms Payne was 18 when she went missing on 14 December, more than 23 years ago.

Police confirmed that 51-year-old Nigel Barwell, of Copperas Street, Coventry, and 50-year-old Thomas O'Reilly, of Ribble Road, Coventry, have been charged with abducting and murdering the teenager.

It is understood the men were arrested in December and have been in custody since.

The investigation into Ms Payne's disappearance was re-opened in 2012 when new information came to light, police said.

Ms Payne's body has never been found but police said they will continue to search for her remains.

Two Rearrested In Nicola Payne Case
Police investigating the disappearance of Nicola Payne have rearrested two people. A man, aged 50, and a 51-year-old woman are currently on police bail in connection with the inquiry. Ms Payne, 18 and a mother-of-one, was last seen on 14 December 1991 in the Henley Green area.

Police Searching Lake In Nicola Payne Investigation
Police investigating the disappearance of Nicola Payne in 1991 are searching an area of water within Coombe Abbey Country Park. It is understood that Home Office scientists have already conducted a preliminary sonar examination of the lake, and will take focus on a stretch of shallow water.

Major Police Hunt Launched After Boy Taken From Hospital
A major police hunt has begun after a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour, was taken by his family without consent from Southampton General Hospital. Police said that Ashya King was taken from the hospital by Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, on Thursday. It is thought he may have been taken to France.

Riot Police Deployed As G8 Protesters Occupy Former Police Station
Some 100 riot police have been deployed in central London as protestors take to the streets to demonstrate ahead on the G8 summit being held in Northern Ireland next week. Officers were sent to Soho, where protesters are thought to have occupied a former police station on Beak Street.
