Cleaner Accidentally Drains Two Swimming Pools
A cleaner has accidentally emptied two swimming pools in Devon after leaving a valve open.
It is understood that the valve being left open caused thousands of gallons of water to flood the plant room at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, destroying three pumps and electrical equipment.
The leisure centre said it could be three weeks before the pools are operational again.
Scaffolding Tower Collapses In City Centre
Scaffolding has collapsed in Leicester city centre, injuring two people.
It is understood that a large scaffolding tower on Charles Street collapsed at about 11:30 on Wednesday morning, hitting a bus and van. Two people are being treated treated for minor injuries.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said that strong winds likely caused the structure to fall.
2.9 Magnitude Earthquake Felt 38 Miles From Epicentre
A 2.9-magnitude earthquake near Winchester was felt up to 38 miles away, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said.
A tremor was recorded in the area of Headborne Worthy, with the epicentre of the earthquake pinpointed at Winnal Trading Estate.
There were no reports of any injuries or damage caused by the quake.

Construction Firms Fined Over Worker's Death
Two Lancashire companies have been sentenced following the death of a construction worker in Altham near Accrington. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted Howorth Scaffolding Services Ltd and Glenmill Group (Developments) Ltd after Peter Walton fell five metres from scaffolding on Altham Industrial Estate, Sykeside Drive in May 2006.

Three people have been seriously injured after scaffolding collapsed at a building site in Milton Keynes. Fifteen stories of scaffolding at the Witan Gate site, where a new Jury's Hotel is being built, collapsed on Tuesday around lunchtime. Up to 20 ambulances were reported to be at the scene, along with air ambulances, fire crews and police.

First time mothers who immerse themselves in water during the first stage of labour can reduce the need for an epidural, according to University of Southampton researchers. The research, published in the British Medical Journal, found that labouring in water can relieve pain and anxiety, reducing the need for interventions to aid contractions.

Police investigation launched into Indian call centre ‘fraud’
Following newspaper allegations that an undercover reporter suceeded in purchasing UK bank account details from an Indian call centre worker, a police investigation has been launched. ‘The Sun’ newspaper reported that one of its journalists purchased account information relating to 1,000 UK customers from a call centre worker in Delhi.
