Carl Frampton Set To Defend Title
Carl Frampton is preparing to defend his IBF world Super Bantamweight title this weekend.
The boxer, who is from Tiger's Bay, is due to go up against Chris Avalos at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night (28 February).
Speaking ahead of the fight, Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín sent her good luck wishes to the 28-year-old.
She said: "Back in September last year, when Carl won his world title the whole city came together to wish him well. It was a superb moment for boxing and especially for Carl.
"Carl is a great ambassador for boxing and I know the dedication and training that all boxers demonstrate in the lead-up to fights. All our local boxers are a great inspiration to young people and show how training, commitment and support from family, friends and coaches can help you achieve world class standards.
"I am sending all our best wishes to Carl for Saturday night and I know we will all be celebrating again on Sunday morning."
Police Probe Shooting Incident
Police have appealed for information following a shooting incident in the Springfield Avenue area of Belfast.
The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday evening (26 February).
Damage was caused to the front door of a house. Police believe a shotgun cartridge had been discharged.
No one was at the property at the time of the shooting and no injuries have been reported.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Over 1,600 Homes Planned For L'Derry
More than 1,600 homes are planned for L'Derry.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has said he intends to approve planning permission for the homes to be constructed in the region.
Eight planning applications for significant housing schemes will be presented to Derry City Council's Planning Committee on 3 March, with an opinion to approve.
The largest scheme is an outline application for 1,400 new homes on lands to the North of Skeoge Road, while approval is also being recommended for 88 "much needed social housing units" at Skeoge Link Road for Fold Housing Association.
Minister Durkan said: "I am confident that Derry City Council will give their backing to these proposals. I am particularly pleased that planners have given a green light to the important development at Skeoge, which will provide 1,400 much needed new homes.
"This was a complex planning application and I am delighted that we have finally got it over the line. People have been waiting for this good news for a long time. These proposals will be also be a real boost to the local economy providing much needed construction jobs in these hard economic times."

The Gobbins To Benefit From £13.6m Investment
Mid and East Antrim Council has welcomed the news of new investment funding of almost £13.6 million for the development of The Gobbins. Ambitious plans for The Gobbins include a 60m-high panoramic stepway, upgrades to the clifftop path, the development of a new Welcome Hub, and improved visitor features.

Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness have congratulated boxer Carl Frampton following his win at the 'Titanic Showdown' match at the weekend. Carl Frampton was victorious over Spain’s Kiko Martinez for the IBF World Super Bantamweight Title, in a match that was the largest ever staged in Northern Ireland.
