Counselling service set up at college of road crash victims

The four men who died in yesterday's road traffic accident in Co Antrim have been confirmed as students at Lisburn College of Further and Higher Education.

The men, Ian Currie, 18 and Philip McMurray, 19, both from Banbridge, and Joseph McDonald, 19, from Belfast, died when their Vauxhall Corsa hit a roadside tree and overturned into a field at Ballyhill Road, Ligoniel, on the outskirts of Belfast.

The family of the fourth victim, a 17-year-old youth, have asked for his name not to be released.

A fifth man, who was driving the vehicle, is currently being treated in hospital for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

A counselling service has been set up at the men's college to deal with the tragedy.

Local MP Jeffrey Donaldson expressed his shock at the news. "These four lads were just out for a drive, and for their lives to be taken so tragically and cruelly in this way must be devastating for their families, and our thoughts and prayers are with them," he said.

No other vehicle is believed to have been involved in the accident.
