Tyrone firm secures £15m contract in Westmeath

A Co Tyrone construction firm has secured a £15 million contract to construct a dual carriageway in the Republic of Ireland.

The contract, placed by the Republic’s National Roads Authority, will see PT McWilliams Limited, a construction company based at Seskinore, build a 4.3km carriageway linking McNead’s Bridge and Kinnegad, near Mullingar, Westmeath, around five kilometres of link and access roads and provide other works such as carriageway lighting, road marking and landscaping.

The new contract is a further significant boost for a company which has increased turnover by 19% to over £4 million in the three years to 2002. The company also achieved a significant growth in export sales, rising to 65% from 1% in the same period.

Managing Director Martin McWilliams described the contract as the company’s “most valuable to date in a market we have targeted for fast growth during 2004”.

“This very substantial contract positions us to meet our ambitious target of turnover growth of 23% and exports contributing in excess of 50% of our business by 2005," he said.
