Irish rugby legend dies in road crash |
|
One of the most popular personalities in Irish rugby has been killed in a road traffic collision in Co Tyrone on Tuesday.
Mick Doyle, who represented both Ireland and the British Lions, was killed this morning when the car he was travelling in collided with a lorry close to Quinn's Corner, outside Ballygawley.
The driver of the lorry is believed to have suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Fire crews are believed to have had to cut the Kerry man from the wreckage.
Representing Ireland between 1965 and 1968, the 63-year-old is perhaps best remembered for leading Ireland to Triple Crown success as coach in 1985.
Paying tribute to Mr Doyle, former international winger Trevor Ringland, a member of that Triple Crown winning side, described his former coach as a "man of great character".
