Bangor woman dies in house blaze |
|
A woman has died following a fire at her Co Down home at the weekend.
The blaze was spotted by a taxi driver who was passing the house on the Donaghadee Road, Bangor at around 4am on Sunday.
The alarm was immediately raised but firefighters were unable to rescue the victim, believed to have been a pensioner, after she became trapped.
North Down DUP Peter Weir said he was “horrified” to hear of the death.
“I extend my condolences to the victim’s family, friends and neighbours who have woken up to terrible news,” Mr Weir said.
“Last year in Northern Ireland, eleven individuals lost their lives in house fires, with another 321 dying across England and Wales. We must continue to do all we can to ensure that everyone takes all possible actions to protect themselves from fire in their homes."
The police said they did not believe the fire was malicious.
