More wintry weather ahead in parts of England
The Met Office has issued more warnings as the southeast and northeast of England has once again been hit by severe winter weather.
Met Office forecasters have issued flash warnings of severe weather for Greater London, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire, as heavy snowfall continues to disrupt travel in these areas. Kent and East Sussex remain the worst affected areas and more snow is expected.
More than 300 schools in Kent and Sussex were closed because of the weather. Travel is also disrupted with roads closed and train and bus services cancelled. It has been reported that the army has been drafted in to help alleviate disruption caused by the severe weather conditions.
The Met Office predicts that the snow will slowly die out in southeast England, although ice is expected as temperatures are predicted to plummet. Though forecasters continue to advise motorists to postpone all but essential journeys in the worst affected areas through tonight and early Thursday morning.
Motorists are also advised to seek advice from local media and the internet on the latest weather forecasts, weather warnings and travel conditions.

Women drivers are more likely to get caught out by severe weather, according to new research published by the Highways Agency. A survey of nearly 1,300 road users showed that women were less likely than men to make a journey by car after hearing a severe weather warning. Only 44% of women said that they would continue, compared with 62% of men.

The forecaster has warned of falling temperatures, which could lead to icy, frozen surfaces in untreated areas. Some 14 flood warnings also remain in place, which have been issued by the Environment Agency.

Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, as temperatures across the UK are plummeting towards -10C. The alerts were issued by the Met Office for Tuesday morning in parts of south-east England and northern Scotland, and forecasters are predicting the arctic conditions to persist over the weekend and into next week.
