Firefighters attacked by stone throwing youths

Firefighters have been attacked by a gang of youths in Belfast for the second consecutive night.

Fire crews were attacked by a crowd of up to 20 youths after putting out a blaze at Belvoir Forest Park. They were caught at a garden fence fire in Jamaica Street and pelted with stones during the incident, however there were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the fire service condemned those behind the attacks.

"This is having an affect on their morale," he said. "Unfortunately, there is this hard core of people who are very hard to reach and continue to attack my firefighters as they go about their duties.”
