British man murdered in Thailand

A British man was stabbed to death in a tourist area in southern Thailand last night.

Richard Mark Collins, 35, from Hereford, was murdered in the tourist town of Krabi on Tuesday night. He is understood to have been stabbed twice and was taken to hospital, where he later died.

A 29-year-old taxi driver, Uthen Duangnoi, has been arrested. Mr Collins was reportedly friends with both Mr Duangnoi and his girlfriend.

Mr Collins lived in Bangkok with his girlfriend, Panida Meedi, 24. It has been reported that Mr Collins worked for Thai Heritage, which is involved in the construction of a new international airport, just outside Bangkok.

Col Collins won damages against the Sunday Express and Sunday Mirror newspapers at the High Court in Belfast on Friday.

It has emerged today that Colonel Tim Collins, the British Army commander who won international plaudits for his moving pre-battle speech in Iraq, is the subject of a second MoD probe. The second inquiry surrounds the apparent suicide of an 18-year-old private soldier at Drumaad barracks, Co Armagh in Northern Ireland, two years ago.

Arrested Made Over Thailand Shooting Of British Tourist
A man has been arrested in Thailand in connection with the death of a 22-year-old Briton shot dead at a bar on New Years Eve. It is thought that British tourist Stephen Ashton, of south London, was caught by a stray bullet during a fight between two groups at a bar on Koh Phangan.
