Scarborough drowning tragedy victims named
A mother and her son who drowned in a tragic accident yesterday have been named as Kim Barrett, 33 and Luke Greenwood, 11.
Coastguards are continuing to search for Ms Barrett's daughter, 13-year-old Aimee Greenwood.
Humber coastguard were called to the scene in Scarborough yesterday afternoon, around 4:00pm, after receiving a series of emergency calls reporting that two adults and two children had been swept out to sea.
It was believed that Luke fell into the sea and the rest of his family, including his mother and sister, and a member of the public entered the water in an attempt to save him. The family were then swept out to sea, although Ms Barrett's boyfriend and another son managed to get ashore.
An extensive search was conducted involving the Scarborough Lifeboat, a rescue helicopter from Leconfield and coastguard rescue teams from Scarborough, Filey and Burniston.
Coastguards have been reported as describing the waters where the family were swept away as "treacherous".

Fire at BT exchange disrupts phone services
Up to 25,000 BT customers have had their services disrupted after a fire broke in a telephone exchange in Scotland last night. The fire at the facility on Mansfield Road, Musselburgh, mostly affected customers around Musselburgh, Longniddry and Gullane where landlines and some mobile phones are out of operation – including 999 services.

Man Dies After Being Swept Out To Sea
North Yorkshire Police have confirmed the death of a man in Scarborough after he was swept out to sea. It is understood the man was walking his dog near the Spa in the resort's South Bay when he was swept out to sea at about 18:00 on Sunday.

Coastguards made the decision to leave a group of apparently drunk teenagers on a cliff overnight as it was "too dangerous" to help them off. Brixham Coastguard received several emergency calls from an 18-year-old reporting he was in some form of distress on a cliff at 12.45am on Thursday.
