Police issue bank holiday drink driving warning
Police have issued advice about the dangers of drinking and driving as thousands of people prepare to take off work for the bank holiday.
Last year 4,423 drivers were detected for drink or drugs driving offences, up 1,634 on the previous year.
Chief Inspector Brian Kee, of the Police Service's Road Policing Development Branch, said: "March 17 is a day for people to enjoy themselves. We do not want to spoil anyone's fun, but we would remind people of the terrible consequences of drinking and driving. One quarter of all road deaths in this country is down to drink.
"We would urge people who are going to take drink to make travel arrangements in advance. Have one member of the party stay sober and act as driver or organise a lift, taxi or bus ride home."
Chief Inspector Kee added that while he hoped people would heed the advice that they should “never, ever drink and drive,” police would continue to take a robust stance on enforcement.

He was speaking as the final figures for this year’s Winter Anti-drink Driving Campaign revealed that 529 motorists were detected for drink driving, an increase of 51 on the same period last year.

25-Year-Old Charged With Murder Of Bobbie McKee
A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with the murder of Bobbie McKee in Kilkeel. Mr McKee (69) died shortly after being found seriously injured at his home in the Newcastle Road area on Thursday 21 March. The man has also been charged with the attempted murder of Mr McKee's wife, who remains in a serious condition in hospital.

15-Year-Old Arrested Following Stabbing In Lisburn
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 14-year-old in the Knockmore Road area of Lisburn last night, Monday 25th March. Police have said that at approximately 7.40pm on Monday 25 March, a 14-year-old boy had been approached by a group of teenagers, before being stabbed in the lower back.
