Rare 'Titanic gem' found in Belfast
A rare piece of Titanic history has been uncovered during Belfast City Council's ‘Titanic - Made in Belfast’ event this week.
The technical plans of the 100-tonne crane specifically built to construct the Titanic and her sister ships have caused great excitement among Titanic enthusiasts since they came to light for the first time in almost 90 years at the beginning of the week.
The item is so rare a find that evaluators, Henry Aldridge and Son, of Devizes, Wiltshire, expect it achieve a four figure sum when it goes to auction, possibly as early as next month.
“The plans were brought to us on Monday at our evaluation stand at the City Hall,” explained the company’s Alan Aldridge, who is holding a series of evaluations at the City Hall this week.
"On presentation by the owner we know this was authentic and of the Titanic period given its look and feel - it even has a reference to the Lusitania, the biggest ship at that time on the plans. For us this is an absolutely fantastic find and we would like to think they there are many more hidden gems waiting to be discovered in the city of Belfast."
Aldridge's, the world’s leading auctioneers of Titanic and White Star Line memorabilia, will back be at the ‘Titanic - Made in Belfast’ event on Friday and Saturday (April 1 and 2), with twice daily evaluation sessions in the City Hall.
‘Titanic - Made in Belfast’ continues until Saturday (April 2).

The ninth annual 'Titanic Made in Belfast' festival - organised by Belfast City Council - begins this Saturday, and continues until Sunday 11 April, with tickets for various events now available at the Belfast Welcome Centre.

Lifeline Thrown To Sinking Titanic
It would be a real disaster if the Titanic were to 'sink again'. That's the reason Belfast City Council is set to investing £10m of ratepayers' money to co-fund a Titanic tourist attraction. The aim is to ensure the £90m Titanic Signature Project will be built by 2012 - after it struggled to secure the final funding needed.

Titanic Centre Tickets Go On Sale
It is now just 100 days until the official opening of Titanic Belfast, the world’s largest Titanic visitor attraction. Work on the internal fit-out of the iconic six-floor building in Titanic Quarter, Northern Ireland’s largest ever tourism project, is ahead of schedule and will be completed ahead of the official opening on 31st March, 2012.
