Policewoman remanded over shooting |
|
A 40-year-old policewoman has appeared at Belfast Magistrate's Court charged with attempted murder.
Diane Marie Northcott, was charged with shooting a fellow officer during an incident at Newtownabbey police station in County Antrim on Saturday evening.
Laurence Smyth, was shot twice during what has been described as a "domestic related incident," and remains seriously ill in hospital.
During today's court appearance, a detective sergeant confirmed that Ms Northcott had made no reply when charged with the offence, however added that he believed that he could connect her with the crime.
He also told the court that the defendant had spoken with a psychiatrist.
She was remanded in custody until October 2, with a bail application expected to be made at a later date.
The police Ombudsman's office have been asked to carry out an investigation in to the shooting.
