Search underway for "dangerous" sex offender

Police have launched an urgent appeal for information about a dangerous sex offender who went missing from a hostel in West Yorkshire on Tuesday, while out on license from prison.

Kelly James Edney, 26, was convicted of the rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1998 and jailed for seven years.

While serving his sentence, he was convicted of making a series of hoax bomb calls to the Samaritans.

He pleaded guilty to making eleven false threats in 2003 and was jailed for four years in 2004.

Edney was reported missing from a hostel in Bradford on Monday night.

He is believed to have been seen at Leeds City Station on Tuesday morning.

It is known that he has connections with the Bridgewater area of Somerset, but it is feared that it may have taken a train to London or could be elsewhere in the country.

Police have warned the public that Edney is considered to be a potentially dangerous sex offender, who has been known to be violent, and should not be approached.

Edney is described as white, slim, 5ft 8ins tall, with dark brown, collar-length wavy hair.

He has various tattoos, including 'home-made' crosses on both his forearms and the letters 'KJE' on his back. He also has a mole on his left cheek and a scar on the left side of his face, as well as scars on his right arm and right finger.

When last seen, police said that he was clean shaven and was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and "very white" trainers, although he may have changed his clothing.

Anyone who has seen him or anyone fitting his description is asked to contact police immediately on 999.
