Motorists warned to reduce speed on Westlink |
|
Motorists are being asked to observe a 30 mph speed limit throughout the duration of the roadworks from Stockman’s Lane to Divis Street in Belfast.
Contractors for the M1/Westlink Highway Management Consortium (HMC) and the Department for Regional Development reinforced their warning which has been put in place for the health and safety of workers and motorists.
The limit has been put in place due to the changing road layouts and narrow lanes within the works.
The police are actively enforcing this speed limit and motorists who travel at over 30mph risk being prosecuted for this offence.
HMC spokeswoman Anne Monaghan said: “It only takes two minutes longer to travel through the works at 30mph as opposed to travelling through them at 50mph.”
Motorists are reminded there is no access from Westlink at Grosvenor Road junction to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
The alternative route to the RVH from the M2 is to leave Westlink at Divis Street and follow the signs to the RVH or carry on along Westlink to Broadway and access the RVH from this junction.
The alternative route to the RVH from the M1 is to leave at Broadway and access the RVH from this junction or to carry on to Divis Street, leave the Westlink here and follow the signs to the RVH.
Drivers should note that a 20 mph speed limit is in operation over the temporary bridge at Grosvenor Road.
