'Severe' Weather Warning For Scotland

A severe weather warning has been issued for Scotland. The Met Office, issued the warning for every region of the country, with icy roads and heavy snow causing dangerous conditions. More than 50 schools in Aberdeenshire have closed, or are partially closed due to the conditions, and 3,000 homes in Kelso could be without gas supplies for several days after a fault on Monday. According to the Met Office, widespread icy roads were covering all of Scotland apart from Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Northern Isles. Temperatures are predicted to drop very quickly this evening, and a low of -10C is expected in some rural parts of the northwest Highlands.

Man In Court Over 1997 Rape

A 63-year-old man is due to stand trial accused of raping a woman over 10 years ago. According to West Yorkshire Police, the man is accused of attacking the woman on October 1997, in Leeds city centre. It is understood the alleged victim was 19 at the time. The man, from the South Yorkshire area, is due to appear before Leeds Crown Court later today, police revealed.

Elderly Man Attacked After Football Match

A 75-year-old man was repeatedly assaulted by a group of men in the underpass from Dockside Road known as 'Sailor's Trod' immediately after the Middlesbrough v Newcastle match at the weekend (5pm on Saturday 29th November). The man was dragged to the floor and repeatedly kicked. He attended James Cook University Hospital and did not suffer serious injury. Officers know that many people will have been in the area and they ask for any witnesses to come forward.

Rally Wales Climax Of World Series

Wales this week gears itself up for the finale to the 2008 World Rally Championship. The event starts at 6pm this Thursday outside Cardiff City Hall with Wales Rally GB featuring 19 special stages over 250 competitive miles.

Police Appeal After Supermarket Robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery outside a Dudley supermarket. Two men approached a security guard as he was making a cash in transit delivery at the Tesco superstore on Burnt Tree Island, Birmingham New Road at 12.20pm yesterday, Monday December 1. The man was not injured but was threatened with crowbars by the two offenders. The offenders escaped in a waiting car with the box containing a large quantity of cash. The vehicle involved is described as a silver coloured saloon car, which appeared to be new. The vehicle was seen to speed off in the direction of Oldbury along Tividale Road, towards Dudley Road East.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Britain's roads are getting safer, the AA Motoring Trust has announced, however motorcyclists are still at risk of serious injury and death. The report, EuroRAP 2005: British Results, analyses data from 850 main roads.

Appeal For Information After Man Is Left Critical In Park Attack
South Wales Police are searching for a number of people in connection with a daytime attack on a 19-year-old man in a park in Cardiff. Police said the victim is in a critical condition in hospital following the attack, which happened on Monday at about 13:45 at Tremorfa park, Cardiff. It is understood the incident involved around 20 people.
