PSNI Contracts Revealed

The Northern Ireland Policing Board has published the findings of a report on how PSNI appoints consultants and deals with contracted out services.

Board Members welcomed the report which was commissioned by the Board in line with similar reviews across Northern Ireland government departments.

According to Trevor Ringland, Chair of the Board's Audit and Risk Management Committee and the project steering group which oversaw the review: "The report was commissioned to provide assurance to the Board and the public that the highest standards of governance are being applied to the operation of police contracts.

"Whilst the report highlights that the policies and procedures in place are satisfactory, it does identify some issues which need to be addressed.

"As such a total of 11 recommendations have been made to tighten up the procedures the PSNI currently have in place. The Board will oversee the implementation of these recommendations." he said.

Mr Ringland continued: "As Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee, I am satisfied that the report reflects the huge progress made within PSNI in this area in recent years.

"However, public scrutiny of this area is essential due to the high value of spend on PSNI contracts. This is an important area of oversight for the Board and this latest report provides not only the necessary assurances but some areas requiring further attention which will be monitored by the Board on an ongoing basis."
