Royal Visitors Back Glenarm Salmon's Relaunch

One of the UK's most avid supporters of country sports, Prince Charles has thrown his weight behind the re-birth of a troubled Co Antrim salmon fishery.

As police kept a discrete watch on main roads leading to the Antrim coast area this morning, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Northern Ireland for a one-day visit, stopping off at the harbour in Glenarm, where they discussed the re-launch of Glenarm Organic Salmon.

The fishery was devastated by an attack by a millions of jellyfish two years ago and has since struggled to get back into full production as a noted supplier to some of London's best stores and restaurants.

The royal accolade will help ensure their renewed success after the disastrous developments in 2007.

The royal couple also met 25 people from local community groups, including members of churches in the area.

They also visited the local post office in the historic village to hear about its services to the community and visited a local jewellery workshop where owners Bill and Christina Steenson were on hand to show a range of locally produced gold and silver pieces.

The royal couple then travelled to nearby Glenarm Castle which is set in a 17th Century deer park and makes up one of Northern Ireland's most important historical landscapes.

Fionnuala Jay-O'Boyle, the Northern Ireland Trustee of The Prince's Regeneration Trust and a leading advocate of architectural protection was on hand to meet the Prince and Duchess.

The Prince of Wales also joined other guests in a round table discussion on appropriate village regeneration for Glenarm and the village committee's vision for the future.

During the visit to the castle, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall was hosted by Lady Dunluce and undertook private engagements.
