Blue's Star 'Winkie' Still In Spanish Jail

Linfield captain William Murphy is still under arrest in Spain.

The 35-year-old centre half, nicknamed 'Winkie', was arrested in Torremolinos (Málaga) on Friday night.

His detention seems to be linked with an incident in which Murphy was involved in 2007 during a stag party in Majorca. He was arrested after allegedly being in possession of counterfeit euros. After putting up his own bail, Murphy then returned to Northern Ireland.

During his return to Spain last week, as part of another stag party - for team mate Jim Ervin - police made a fresh arrest after his passport was matched to an apparent watchlist.

Apparently, he did not return to Spain to face a subsequent charge after being granted bail, according to the club.

Linfield manager David Jeffrey said last Tuesday he have been told that Murphy could be moved to Madrid. "We're getting snippets of information", said Jeffrey. He added that there is no update on the current situation.
