19-Year-Old Arrested Over Glasgow Death
A teen has been arrested in connection with the death of a 22-year-old man in Glasgow last month. Kieran Crawford died after a disturbance in Forge Street in the Germiston area on Sunday 24 May. Strathclyde Police said a 19-year-old man had been arrested and was being held in custody. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal. The teenager is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Nine other people, all male and aged between 13 and 26, have already been arrested in connection with Mr Crawford's death. They have been charged with a number of offences, including murder, attempted murder, mobbing and rioting.
Teen Injured In Collision
A 15-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury after colliding with a van in Gorton in the early hours of Tuesday 23 June 2009. Shortly after 4am police received a report that masked thieves were breaking into a house on Furnival Road, Gorton. Officers arrived at the scene and stopped two people close by who they believed may have been involved. One of them, a 15-year-old boy, threw a laptop to the floor and ran off. The officers detained the second youth, however, they did not pursue the boy who had thrown the lap top. The injured boy suffered a life-threatening head injury and is currently in a critical condition at Manchester Children's Hospital. No-one else was injured in the incident.
Drivers Rescued From Flash Floods
Drivers in a North Yorkshire village were trapped by flash floods after two weeks of rain fell in four hours. Local residents helped to get the occupants out of their vehicles in Askwith, near Otley, after 25mm of rain fell on Monday evening. Firefighters had been despatched to assist, but all the motorists had already been laid to safety. A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said: "There was quite severe flooding in the whole area." He also said fire crews conducted a thorough search of the area and were satisfied that everyone affected had been taken to safety.
Motorcyclist Dies In Crash
A 35-year-old motorcyclist has died in a crash on a main road in Bridgend county. South Wales Police said the incident happened at around 3.45am between Llangynwyd village and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd, near Maesteg. No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash, which closed the road until 0700 BST. The motorcyclist died at the scene.
Mansell Scoops £5.7m Hackney Housing Contract
Mansell has been awarded a £5.7 million contract for the design and construction of 36 new homes at Lyme Grove, Loddiges Road in Hackney, London, for Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association. The contract has been awarded under the North River Alliance framework. The contract will involve the demolition of an existing building and the construction of an eight-storey tower housing 27 one, two or three-bed flats and a row of nine townhouses, comprising three and four bedroom homes. Ten units will be available for intermediate and the remaining 26 will be for affordable rent. The scheme has been designed to achieve Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Part of the electricity required by the tower will be generated through photovoltaic panels and the townhouses will feature air source heat pumps and a partial green roof. Demolition will commence on site this month with construction scheduled to begin in mid-July. The project is due to be completed in October 2010.
